Integrated marine engineering surveys

One of the company's main and oldest activities. It combines all types of marine engineering surveys, including:

Hydrographic surveys are an integral part of any complex of marine works. They include the survey and description of the morphology of the seabed using various methods and equipment. To capture the seabed relief and measure the depths, our company uses state-of-the-art equipment: dual-frequency single-beam and multi-beam high-resolution (400 kHz) and ultra-high-resolution (700 kHz) echosounders, as well as side-scan sonars (400-1600 kHz range). The high resolution of this equipment allows for the acquisition of data of the highest quality and detail, ensuring that hydrographic surveys meet or exceed the requirements for any type of work.

Our company performs magnetometry surveys, continuous seismic profiling, and seismic reflection wave surveys (common depth point method) using high-resolution and ultra-high-resolution 2D seismic systems. ROMONA's wide range of equipment allows it to use both fixed and towed profilers, as well as gradient meters with paired Geometrics G-882 magnetometers. Geophysical surveys are used in various types of work:

  • Area surveys for the installation of exploration and production drilling platforms;
  • Research for the construction of offshore pipelines and communications;
  • Research for the construction of sea crossings and berthing facilities;
  • Surveying water areas for explosive objects;
  • Inspection of offshore pipelines, communications, and underwater infrastructure.

To carry out these works, ROMONA JSC has developed and created a modular mobile geophysical complex. It allows for the rapid mobilization of a full set of geophysical and auxiliary equipment on any vessel, even those that were previously unequipped. The complex can operate completely autonomously from an additional generator module. Its mobility and equipment enable it to perform any engineering and geological surveys in a minimal amount of time.

Engineering and geotechnical surveys include the selection, description, and laboratory testing of soil and bottom sediments. Surface bottom sediments are collected using a Van-Veen bucket sampler. Soil samples (cores) are collected to a depth of up to 9 meters using a vibration sampler. The collected samples are described and initially tested in a mobile laboratory on board the vessel. Once the field phase is completed, the core samples are transferred to specialized certified land-based laboratories for final testing.

Oceanographic and hydrometeorological surveys are usually carried out as part of a complex of offshore and onshore works. They are aimed at recording and processing data on various parameters of the air and marine environment. The information obtained is necessary for making economically, technically, and environmentally sound decisions during the selection of a construction site, during construction itself, and during the operation and decommissioning of offshore oil and gas facilities. The company's wide range of oceanographic equipment allows for the short-term and long-term installation of autonomous measuring devices on the seabed, in the subsurface, and in the surface layers. The equipment records the following parameters:

  • Speed and direction of currents at different depths (using bottom-mounted Doppler acoustic current meters);
  • Ice thickness, speed, and direction (using bottom profilers);
  • Wave parameters (using autonomous wave gauges);
  • Water parameters: temperature, salinity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen content, etc.;
  • Air quality parameters (using automatic integrated meteorological stations)

For registration and monitoring of the tidal regime, the company uses both autonomous bottom tide gauges and coastal stations with the possibility of remote data collection. For example, for several years now, a coastal station for recording sea level in the village of De-Kastri (Khabarovsk Krai) has been successfully operating. Data from the station is transmitted to the server of JSC "ROMONA", which allows remote monitoring of sea level through an Internet resource in real time.
